Inviting parents into the class room of young children may seem to be challenging but it has its own unparalleled benefits. The parents can be invited for reading books to the children, performing various art and craft activities, for various musical activities or even for sharing about their experiences and profession with the kids.
These may seem to be challenging for the school to accommodate such interventions as these may interfere with the school or class routine but its pros certainly overweigh its cons.
The presence of a not so strange person in the secure environment of the class is a welcomed surprise for the kids and most of them are super excited to interact with the parent and have a lot of fun. They are more attentive and their adrenalin levels are high.
There will be a few kids who will not open-up to the parent initially but this is a great opportunity for them to interact with the stranger in the secure and familiar domains of the class room in presence of their teachers, whom they trust.
The teachers have a peculiar way of doing things which is unique to each and it is a part of the class culture and environment. In some schools the school culture is omnipresent even in classrooms. The entry of parents disrupts this monotony. Each parent has his/her own way of dealing and interacting with the kids and this change of daily course excites the kids and they learn to work on different stimuli and take directions from someone other than their teacher.
Each parent brings with them a fresh perspective, different set of skills and a exclusive knowledge base. This exposure is missing when the kids are interacting with the same teacher again and again on a daily basis.
It is not only the kids that gain from such interventions. The parents also learn new things from this activity. They gather a lot of experience by being with so many kids, learn how to make so many kids follow them, make them do different activities etc. Sometimes this experience is also overwhelming for the parents and many of them want to do it again.
The schools gain the confidence of the parents as they get to know exactly how the classes are functioning. They are more aware of the school environment and feel more related to the school.
Over a period of time the kids, parents and school all feel great about being closer to each other and it enhances the bonding between all three.
